Drug Rehab Referral Service

Narcotic Rehab

For those that suffer from an addiction to narcotics, narcotic rehab is the way out.  Narcotic addiction is one of the top addictions in the United States today, and the rates of addiction and abuse continue to grow.  Whether legal or illegal, addiction to narcotics now makes the medicine cabinet at home just as dangerous as the drug dealer on the corner. There are several stages that all work together to make narcotic rehab work.  Narcotic rehab starts with detox, goes on to treatment and counseling, and is followed by the aftercare.  All three stages of rehab are important to the success of any treatment program.  If even one stage is cut short or left out, it could be devastating to the success of recovery as they all work to teach the narcotic dependent person how to live life in a drug-free environment and deal with life issues without the crutch of narcotics.

The Stages of Rehabilitation

Narcotic RehabBefore entering narcotic rehab, the person should be prepared and informed about what to expect, especially during the detox phase of rehab.  Detoxification is the process by which the body cleanses itself of the remaining toxins that may be in the system.  Detox can be traumatic and overwhelming.  The severity and length of detoxification depends completely upon the individual addiction.  Someone with a more advanced and severe addiction to narcotics may have longer and more painful withdrawal symptoms than someone with a milder addiction.  As the more dangerous and painful symptoms begin to ease off, the individual can then begin treatment.

The treatment for narcotics addiction can take 30 days or longer, depending on the severity of the addiction.  Learning and gaining understanding about addiction and the problems that it causes can have a huge impact on future decisions that the recovering addict may make.  They learn about the bad choices that got them to where they are, and how to avoid the same path again.  Group and individual counseling sessions are used to help provide tools for dealing with issues and stresses of everyday life and how to avoid and deal with triggers that may cause cravings or relapse to occur.

Aftercare Is Vital To Maintaining Recovery

Aftercare for a person who has graduated from a treatment program can be more important than the treatment program itself.  Having to re-adjust to life outside of a narcotic rehab and to a drug-free environment can be very difficult after being isolated in a world of addiction for so long.  Participation in 12-step programs is required to help with all of the emotions and adjustments that come from so many changes at one time.  A new life can sometimes seem overwhelming, and these programs can help provide a safe haven full of support and kindred spirits who understand what the recovering addict is going through.
